The Nikon D5000 is a 12.3-megapixel DX-format DSLR Nikon F-mount camera, announced by Nikon on 14 April 2009.
The D5000 takes up the top position in Nikon’s consumer SLR camera space, and joins a small set of competing for digital SLRs that offer HD movie recording: the Nikon D90, Canon 5D Mark II, and Canon T1i; and though not strictly an SLR, the Panasonic GH1 will also be considered by many looking for an interchangeable lens digital camera.
Getting the most out of your Nikon D5000 requires some understanding of how to use it. That’s where having the owner’s manual comes in handy. With proper usage, there is less risk of damage, and you’ll learn how to get the most out of it.

Please be sure to read and save the entire manual before setting up or using your Nikon D5000. Misuse may result in damage to the unit and/or cause harm or serious injury. Download the manual and save it for future reference. This 19.6 MB PDF instruction document (Nikon calls it a “Guide to Digital Photography”) for the Nikon D5000 should prove to be a fantastic read.
